| London has a vast array of good walks, be it along the River Thames or past historical sites. But Central London is only a small part of walking to be found in the capital. There are stunning parks, canals, navigations, rivers, marked trails and surprisingly, really quiet and peaceful countryside. Sheep can be seen grazing only six miles from the centre! But all walks are steeped in history, and around every corner there is a historic building or a tale waiting to be told.
I am passionate about walking; in fact it is my life's work. Every day I explore a new area, and the more I walk past the less I know.
The books are on an ongoing project and I can only hope that they encourage you to set off and see for yourself what a magnificent walking area this. I no there are few hills but the content more than makes up for it. Added to this there is always a variety of transport closeby, so you can always stop and come back another day to continue your walk and exploration.
I have walked all the walks in the books and have written, mapped and photographed what I have seen. The walking is the easy bit! After walking I then draw the maps, write the text, do research and then eventually page the whole thing up. Each book is totally my own work from footprint to finished guide, as I do all the printing and finishing myself. It's quicker that way and also means that any updates are included immediately.
To compensate for the paper we use, we are constantly planting new trees through the Woodland Trust.
